For those of you that have been reading this blog for a while now or that know me personally, know that I have a deep love for sunglasses…
In the past I think I wore them more out of necessity because my eyes are light and pretty sensitive to sunlight, but my true obsession came on about ten years ago, right around the time I started working for myself. Maybe it was because I was outside more and the need to wear sunglasses was more prevalent, who knows. All I know now is that I feel naked if I leave the house without a pair!
Although I don’t wear eyeglasses (fingers crossed my 20/20 vision keeps up), I was excited when Cohen’s Fashion Optical approached me (check out their blog here!) about the idea of sharing my ideas on how to integrate different styles for different occasions. Below, I created three outfits around three pairs of sunnies that I selected from the store on Greenwich Ave in the West Village.
Now a little history lesson for those of you that love this kind of stuff like I do!
Founded in 1927 by the Cohen’s Family, the original shop was opened on Orchard Street and Delancey, and became the only fashion eyewear retail location to be found in New York City. I love walking by the store when I am down in the Lower East Side – such history! There are over 130 franchise stores in the US and Puerto Rico now, and is built around the concept of providing quality eye care while offering on-trend fashion eyewear and sunwear, which was perfect for me!
The founder, Jack Cohen, pioneered a new philosophy in the retail eyewear business, with his vision focusing on everyone who needed prescription eyeglasses and the idea that they could look and feel better about themselves, and of course see better too. :)
What I didn’t know was each store is allowed to merchandise their shop themselves in order to carefully curate a collection of products that appeals to their local area, which is why I went to the location on Greenwich Ave! It’s near my neighborhood in the city and I felt like it would work with what I looking for.
Okay, so now that you know a bit more about the history behind this company, let’s get on with the outfits and sunglasses that I styled! (You can find the three styles of sunglasses I wore in this post available at the Greenwich Ave store in the West Village. :)
What to wear to work…
What to wear to lunch:
The next time you head to lunch with friends on a Saturday afternoon, channel a little bit of boho chic with these stylin’ Ray-Bans. Because this style is a bit more fashion-forward, keep the rest of your outfit simple by wearing classic pieces like denim, no-fuss sandals and do as I do…keep the focus on the accessories!
What to wear to a wedding:
Now that the weather is finally getting warmer, and it’s becoming wedding season, many ceremonies are held outside…in the sun. If you’re like me, you’ll need something to protect your eyes and minimize squinting, which will also help you see the bride and groom better! These pretty Pucci sunglasses are equal parts girly and elegant, and are sure to match any dress you wear, making you look tasteful yet glamorous.
