Last March, I started my transition to becoming a blonde, and ever since I’ve been picking up tips on how to take care of my lighter locks. The last time I was this blonde, I was in college and I definitely didn’t take very good care of my hair, but now that I have the resources as well as great experts at my fingertips, I’ve made a pact with myself to actually do it right this time around. So with that said, I wanted to share a few summer hair care tips that I picked up from Elaine, the Senior Creative Director at the Sassoon Salon in New York!
Read on to hear her four easy tips on taking care of your hair this summer!
How do I prevent blonde hair getting brassy or turning green from the pool?
Pools/ocean make a huge impact on blondes and often lead to that dull brassy color that everyone hates. These elements can be very damaging to the blonde color. I highly recommend leaving conditioner in the hair while it is damp. This acts as an amazing barrier to the chlorine and also protects the hair in the ocean. Lastly, don’t forget your hat to prevent sun damage.
What are the best summer hair care products for blondes?
I love the Davines Dede hair mist. This spray is a leave in conditioner spray with an ultra light and fresh smell. For shampoo and conditioner, I recommend Kerastase Resistance a superb strengthening shampoo for brittle and breakable blonde hair.
Do you recommend a hair mask or a deep conditioner to keep hair from getting dry and damaged?
Hair masques are a MUST! Blondes get super thirsty and fine hair can be quite fragile at times during different seasons. To prevent breakage, I recommend the Kerastase Resistance Masque Force Architecte. This product strengthens hair, repairs split ends and protects against future damage.
I have fine hair. How do I combat the humidity without weighing it down with too much product?
Humidity can be huge problem for blondes. I suggest pre-blowdrying with an amazing protector/strengthening milk like Davines OI All in One Milk. Then, after blowdrying use a light hairspray like Kerastase Laque Dentelle. Never spray directly onto hair. I suggest spraying the product on a comb and then combing hair delicately from roots to ends. This technique keeps hair light and soft but resilient against humidity.
Thanks Elaine!
