Today’s post is near and dear to my heart because not only does it have to do with talking about empowerment and confidence, but today and tomorrow, 10% of sales from the blog will be donated to a wonderful nonprofit organization called Dress for Success, with ShopStyle matching 100% of my contribution! That’s a $1 for a $1! So awesome, right?
For those of you that haven’t heard of Dress for Success, it is a non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and the development tools to help women thrive in work and in life.
So with that said, the topic at hand is discussing what I consider my “power outfit” and what makes me feel confident. In my opinion, this is not only in regards to clothing, but also refers to those I surround myself with – those I view as role models – who empower me as a person.
I decided on this outfit as my “power outfit” because it is one of my favorite looks I wore on a recent trip to Paris with a few girlfriends of mine. Whenever I travel, I love outfits that can change or look different just by adding a hat or a scarf. In this case, I am wearing a fairly simple look, which consists of a striped top, leggings and a leather jacket. But because I threw on a beanie and layered with faux fur, it changed the ensemble completely!
Anyway, the friend who shot these photos for me was someone, who at the time, I actually had only met a couple months prior but immediately connected with when I met her. Our trip to Paris together solidified our friendship and created a bond that I know is rock solid.
So I guess what I mean to say is, yes I love this outfit because I’m wearing stripes and navy and my favorite black bag, but to me what also goes into a “power outfit” is not only what you wearing and how it makes you feel, but who you surround yourself with that also strengthens that confidence to even feel powerful in the first place.
I know that without my friends and family, I would be nowhere. It is those people that take care of me, that pass no judgement on me and that are there for me no matter what, who have helped create the woman I am today. Because without confidence from within and having those loved ones around you, supporting you and building you up, clothing is just clothing. Believe in yourself, let the good in and surround yourself with positive and uplifting people. Here’s to confidence and feeling empowered! xoxo
Don’t forget that I will be contributing 10% of sales from my blog today and tomorrow to Dress for Success, and ShopStyle will match 100% of my contribution! That’s $1 to $1! So shop away for a good cause!
