Earlier this month, I headed over to the Meatpacking district to attend Hawaiian Tropic’s Escape Day. It was held under a pop up tent complete with hammocks, massage chairs, manicure stations as well as a makeshift yoga floor with mats laid out all ready for core fusion classes.
Having worked with Hawaiian Tropic before, I love sharing knowledge on skin care and how to stay safe in the sun. For instance, I decided to take a core fusion class in the middle of the day outside in the hot sun and was so happy to be able to slather myself in sunscreen so that I didn’t fry my skin. They of course had plenty everywhere you looked, so that was pretty awesome. :)
I arrived in work out pants, no makeup and gym shoes, ready to be pampered and get a stiff workout before eating tacos and drinking margaritas later on in the night.
It was such a great escape – not only be able to enjoy one of our first sunny days in New York City with a fitness class outside, but to just take some time for myself without feeling guilty that I wasn’t inside answering emails and getting ahead on work that needed to be done.
Prepping myself to be out in the sun for the next hour. Don’t forget to protect your ears!
Instead, I happily indulged in a great massage, and chatted with the masseuse about certain pressure points in my neck, and had the manicurist paint my nails a festive bright pink in lieu of the holiday.
I also got to interview Sarah Hyland, who is their celebrity spokesperson and we were able to briefly chat about what her ideal escape would be. It sounded right up my alley!
I love this sound bite I grabbed from Sarah Hyland: “I think a romantic escape in Bora Bora would be amazing. I would bring Hawaiian Tropic Island Sport because, well, it’s Bora Bora! Also, I would bring a translation device, a phone with an international data, a charger and a huge suitcase full of clothes!”
She was so sweet and genuine, I loved chatting with her, and am ready for another Escape Day with her whenever she is ready! :)

Afterward, I thought about what my ideal Escape Day would be and realized that it would be lying by a pool with Casey, with a picnic, a cool drink in hand and magazines. My key essentials to always staying safe in the sun are, Hawaiian Tropic of course, a hat of some kind, a light scarf in case my shoulders get hot, portable speakers to play music and a comfy picnic blanket to take a nap on! What would you perfect Escape Day? I would love to know! xoxo
