Southwest Style

Guess who’s flying out to Santa Fe tomorrow?! ME! I’m pretty excited to have a change of scenery that is so drastically different than the two coasts that I call my homes. I’m looking forward to desert, dry heat, large open spaces, turquoise… Yep, you could say I’m super stoked.

So I thought instead of sharing outfit photos today, I would do a little roundup of some inspiration photos that I found on Pinterest that struck me as very Southwest meets Boho-chic, if you will.

I’ll be honest, I packed extremely light for this trip home to Seattle and Santa Fe, but I brought with me a few brightly colored dresses, a pair of fringed boots and a couple of hats, which I plan on wearing all this week, so I promise to share a bunch of outfit photos this Thursday as well as next week too.

I also plan on doing some light shopping in Santa Fe and Taos, hopefully snagging another piece of turquoise jewelry, since I absolutely love the ring my parents bought for me from their last trip to Santa Fe, and maybe an accessory or two (read more boots and hats).

Anyhoo, here are some photos that are inspiring me at the moment. Stay tuned for my YouTube video tomorrow, which will share what I am bringing with me on my trip, as well as the usual Weekly Edit blog post, which will feature more shoppable Southwest-inspired, must-have pieces for the wardrobe! xo

The Nolitan Hotel

I recently spent some time at the lovely Nolitan Hotel in Nolita and immediately fell in love. The rooms are bright and cheery with great views and some even have little balconies looking out over Kenmare Street. The lobby is super stylish, complete with leather couches, bicycles and funky lighting. I wanted to sit there all day in one of the large oversized leather chairs and just read the paper. If you need a great place to stay in the city, I definitely recommend checking out this cute little spot.

YouTube Tuesday: Weekend Wear, Dallas Edition!

Hey guys and happy Tuesday! Today’s post is all about what I wore down to Dallas this past weekend! I went courtesy of Mary Kay, to learn more about the brand, visit their headquarters and attend the 50th Anniversary of the ACM awards! (They were one of the official sponsors.)

For those of you that follow me on YouTube (you can subscribe here!) I made a packing video last week, which shared everything I brought with me on this trip, and I mentioned I was going to share the outfits I wore. I didn’t get as much footage as I wanted because the trip was such a whirlwind and we got caught in a tornado watch!!! But at least I was able to document (both on video and in photographs) two different looks, one of which I wore to the awards ceremony!

I wore this dress by Donna Morgan to the ACM red carpet and awards ceremony. My earrings are from Bauble Bar, my shoes are from Schutz and my bag is from UGG. Luis Casco from Project Runway did my makeup and the lovely girls from Era Salon styled my hair! They did such an amazing job, I felt so glamorous! :)

I have owned this gorgeous silk shift dress, which was a gift from Calypso, for months now but it has just been too darn cold to wear it! So I was over the moon that I finally was able to in Dallas this past weekend. I wore this look to my meeting at the Mary Kay offices and then to lunch afterwards.

(Side note: Make sure to wear a slip underneath this silky white sheath because it’s pretty see through!)

These are my vintage cowboy boots! I’ve owned them forever but never really wear them.

I think I need a sleek black pair. Wouldn’t those look amazing with black ripped jeans and a leather jacket? Yesss. If you guys know of a great place to buy vintage boots, let me know!

YouTube: What’s In My Suitcase!

Hey everyone and happy Thursday! Aren’t you so happy the weekend is just around the corner. I know I am because tomorrow I am escaping the city with Casey for a quick weekend to Dallas, where the weather is supposed to be 70 degrees! A Day On Orcas Island

Hi guys! Today is a very special day because it’s my Dad’s BIRTHDAY! We are celebrating by spending some time as a family on Orcas Island, one of our very favorite Pacific Northwest getaway spots and soaking up every minute of it. Trip to Tarifa

This past Sunday, we took a little day trip to Tarifa, to celebrate our friend Jami’s Birthday. It was about a two hour drive from Malaga, so we got up bright and early to beat the crowds and spent some quiet time on one of the nearby beaches. We soaked up the sun, applied massive amounts of sunscreen, ate more tapas and sipped cold beers. After a few hours, we drove back into the old part of town, which was just beautiful. The streets are narrow and winding and the views surrounding the town are incredible. It’s one of the ports where you can catch a ferry to Africa, which is also pretty neat.

This whole trip, I let my hair air-dry, constantly wore my sunglasses (but that’s nothing new) and wore no makeup, except for the occasional swipe of mascara and a peachy lip color. I lived in my bathing suit and constantly had sand in my hair, but it felt pretty great to just be au natural and not worry about anything else. Sunday was no different for the most part, but I knew Tarifa was a special place and we were celebrating so I felt like slipping on something a little more dressy than just my usual shorts and tee. I had packed this dress hoping to wear it at least once, and it turned out to be the perfect piece to slip on to enjoy the second half of our day. I definitely had beach hair, which was still drying in these photos, so I wore my new favorite Panama hat and a bright lip for a pop of color.

A Day in Malaga

Saturday, Andi and I took the train into the city of Malaga and did a little exploring. We visited the big market there, where I bought some great spices, and we sampled some of the local fare at one of the tapas stands. We made the obligatory trip to Zara, where I picked up a few things, and then we sat and chatted over more tapas and wine. Here in Spain, it is expected to sit down every few hours, eat a tapa or two, drink a glass of wine and chat before heading back out again. Oh, and naps. Naps are big here. I’m a big fan of that part – well everything, really. All and all, the day was a success, and I loved having some catch up time with this one. She’s pretty great. :) xo

Hola from Spain! How was everyone’s weekend? Ours was pretty fantastic. We spent time on various beaches in Benalmadena and Tarifa, explored nearby towns, and indulged in more than our fair share of tapas and vino blanco. I can’t believe how fast this trip has flown by and that it’s already Monday. We head out Wednesday morning, so today and tomorrow will be spent reading on our local beach, taking nap breaks and sampling more of the amazing food this country has to offer. I have to say, being from Seattle, where fish is very fresh and abundant, I can be somewhat snobby about my seafood. But the amount of fresh shrimp, prawns, mussels and clams we’ve experienced so far is pretty impressive. I really love it here. xo
