MSP Styles: Maxi Dress, Day to Night

A couple weeks ago I got to partake in a really fun shoot with the brand, Donna Morgan, which is a great line of dresses that all retail under $200. The pieces are extremely versatile and easy to style for all sorts of occasions. So to help demonstrate this, I picked two dresses and styled them a bunch of different ways showing how to take a look from day to night just by simply swapping out a few simple items and accessories. One of the pieces I styled was this colorful maxi, which is perfect for the end of summer. What’s great about this piece is, although it’s super cute on it’s own with it’s playful pattern and beaded neckline, I wanted to change it up a bit for day time looks, so I opted for more casual accessories such as neutral tones to keep relaxed unfussy. For my evening looks I chose white pieces to layer with, which I think adds an immediate elevated feel and instantly takes a simple maxi to the next level.

Summertime in Nashville

Hi y’all! (Yes, I am feeling very southern right now.) So, we’ve been in Nashville only a day and have already experienced great food and drinks at The Farm House, The Southern, Patterson House and Rolf & Daughters. Needless to say, it was a fantastic introduction into the bar and restaurant scene. It was a scorcher yesterday so this flowy maxi was a perfect choice for the 90-degree weather we were experiencing.

Today, we are hoping to check out Edgehill Cafe and the Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, then eat dinner and maybe go bowling at Pinewood Social. Afterward, I am hoping to hear some live music at either the Listening Room or The Bluebird Cafe. I can’t wait and hope to get some great photos this weekend.xo

Little White Dress

Lately I’ve been all about the juxtaposition of a girly sundress paired with edgier accents. Last week I posted this outfit – a silky striped shift paired with a black leather jacket – and this week I decided to show how you can quickly change the appearance of very girly, white sundress by once again, simply adding black leather accessories. It’s an easy way to take a feminine day-time dress to a full on evening-appropriate outfit. xo

I found these shoes at Zara a while back, but if I had to buy another pair, I would seriously consider these!

I still adore my beloved Givenchy. Such a tried and true piece.

Just a fun little Friday remix for you! I have quite a little collection of beaded skirts and love mixing them up by not only wearing them at night, but during the day too. With the right styling, you won’t feel like you are super dressy, which is key. For this remix, I kept the bones of each outfit very similar, i.e. black, shoes, same sunglasses, similar jewelry etc, as well as the color palette, which makes creating outfits much easier, especially if you are new to remixing.

Stripes x Birkenstocks

It’s official, Birkenstocks are back, and I have been wearing mine nonstop. I even danced on the beach to Outkast in my suede pair at Hangout Fest, which was a blast. I now own this black leather pair and this taupe suede pair, but am on the hunt for these cute white ones in a size 7, which so far has been impossible because they are sold out everywhere! So funny how certain trends come back around.

It’s finally getting warmer in New York (YAY!) and my uniform as of late has been some sort of lightweight shirt, shorts and an open-toed sandal, which is now mostly Birkenstocks. Since this particular look is mostly black and white, I thought I would punch it up with a bit a color by adding a bright blue bag and a bold red lip. I also recently re-found these sunglasses in a random jacket pocket, which made me extremely happy because I thought they were lost forever, but that’s neither here nor there, just a happy addition :)

Pledge to Switch

Now that I am in my early 30s, I have really started to think about how I want to take care of myself and the changes I want to make to live a healthier lifestyle. There are a million things I know I should be better about (drinking more water, wearing sunscreen daily, flossing more regularly, to name a few) but the one thing that my Grandmother and Mother always told me was that it was important to take care of my skin. Not just my face, but my whole body. I’ll admit, I have gotten much better at taking my makeup off before I go to bed and moisturizing my face two times a day. But, I neglect the rest of my skin as far as moisturizing goes. The problem that I have aways found, is my skin is extremely dry and sensitive, and I’ve had far too many experiences where it will get super itchy after using the wrong body wash or lotion.

However, now that summer is right around the corner and I plan to be in a bathing suit for most of it, I no longer can hide behind an excuse not to take care of my skin head to toe. That said, I’ve decided to make a pledge and switch from not using any type of body moisturizer to making a conscious effort to do so everyday. It may not seem like a hard task, but habits are hard to break. I just have to keep reminding myself that I don’t want to have scaly, wrinkly, dry skin as I get older so I’m tackling the issue now and giving it my best shot! I now encourage you all to make a pledge of your own! What healthier choices do you want to make in your life?
