Remix Challenge: What I Packed
Happy Monday! Sorry for the delay in posting what I packed, but I finally have all my photos in one place and can finally share with you what I brought home to Seattle. So, here we go…
Goal: To only bring one small suitcase and carry-on with me for my three-week stay in Seattle.
Inspiration: The Uniform Project. I love how Sheena, the founder of the site and project, wears and remixes one dress over the course of a year and donates proceeds to the Akanksha Foundation.
Challenge: Remixing this LBD 14 different ways over the next two weeks. (Although I will be in Seattle for roughly three weeks, I thought I start out with a fairly attainable period of time and so I settled on two weeks.)
What I Packed:
(Yes, all of the stuff you are about to see,
fit into one small red suitcase and it’s matching red bag. Proud of me?)
Accessories:
This part is fairly easy because most accessories—minus the shoes—can either be flattened, like tights and scarves, or are on the smaller side, like necklaces, bracelets, rings etc. In this department, especially with the LBD remix challenge, I decided that my best bet would be to bring as many different colored tights as possible, for the sake of options, as well as a few of my favorite go-to belts, necklaces and scarves. A few different hats and, gloves and sunglasses add varying touches to an outfit without much effort. These types of items are great for sprucing up outfits that are made up of one basic color palette, such as black, gray or navy.
Shoes:
Not counting my running shoes, which I wore on the plane, I decided to see how I could fare with just four pairs of shoes.
* Maroon peep-toe heels: The deep, muted color goes with most any color, and because they aren’t overly dressy, they can be paired with jeans as well as dresses.
* High-heel black pumps: Always good to bring a pair of your dressiest heels so that if the occasion calls for it, you’ll be prepared.
* Dark brown oxford heels: Since I already have a pair of black heels, I wanted to make sure I brought a pair of brown pump-like heels as well, so I opted for a slightly different take on the typical style. Oxfords are great for slightly more casual ensembles, but still always looks cute.
*Converse: Because what’s better than your favorite pair of cons when you just want to run an errand or take a leisurely walk. It’s always good to bring a pair of comfy shoes, whether it’s sneakers or running shoes, or both!
Clothing:
Since the dress is in fact a little black dress, and I don’t have a problem mixing navy and black together, I had some fun with the assortment of colors/pieces I chose to bring with me. Also, as I always try to do when remixing, I looked at all my clothing with a different eye. I knew I had to be creative and so I thought about what could be layered underneath another layer, or whether a tunic could go under a vest, or a skirt could fit over the top of the dress. Funky and creative were two words that definitely had to come in to play when packing these outfits. But, I will say this. When trying to pack light, pick items that you feel comfortable in and that you know fit your body well. Bring things that are versatile and can seamlessly transition from day into night wear. I will try and not over-explain with lots and lots of texts, but instead show you over the next two weeks how it can done, with just a little bit of imagination, and a lot of fun! And please, if you have ANY questions, please feel free to email me at mystylepill [at] gmail [dot] com. I love to hear from you guys! xoxo
Remix Challenge: Day 3
So, continuing with what I said in my last post about being covered in dog hair and mud, which is actually a lot of fun, when I got home, I knew I wanted to spruce myself up a bit. And since I am heading out soon to finish up some of my Christmas shopping and maybe grab a drink with a friend, I decided to dress up my LBD in sequins and jewels to sort of change up my look from earlier, which was very au natural. Remix Challenge: Day 1
Before I dive in, let me just say that my computer is still at the Apple store, so I won’t be able to put up my photos of everything I packed until tomorrow (hopefully!) so thank you for being patient. Okay. So, for those of you just joining us, I have committed to, and accepted a remix challenge, brought on yours truly. For the next two weeks, which ends on the 31st of this month, I will remix this little black dress, 14 different ways. This idea was inspired by The Uniform Project, and the fact that I am home in Seattle for the next handful of weeks and needed to pack light. So, with that said, let’s talk about the outfit.
It’s Friday and tonight I am going to meet up with one of my oldest friends for happy hour down in Edmonds, to catch up and fill each other in on the happenings of our lives. I wanted to wear something that was sort of dressed up but still understated—Edmonds is a small little town right by the water and I didn’t want to go overboard—hence the mostly black ensemble with just a few accents of color here and there. It’s warmer today than it was yesterday but still necessary to wear a little blazer and tights, plus what I am going to call my “driving gloves.” Because, well, I get to drive while I’m here. (Woo hoo!)
Stay tuned for another remix tomorrow!

Remix Challenge: The Little Black Dress
Here it is, folks. The Little Black Dress, in it’s basic form—me as well—that I will be remixing the heck out for the next couple weeks. I will also be posting photos of everything I packed, explaining my process and giving tips on how to wisely and efficiently choose what to bring when trying to travel light. I’m sorry I’m not able to put them up today, but both my Macs are at the Apple store right now being synced up. But, if all goes well, I will get them back tonight and be able to upload everything to share with you tomorrow. xoxo
