Last Thursday, I excitedly made my way over to the Sally Hershberger Salon in the Meatpacking district in anticipation of giving my hair a little makeover. The ends were so dry, they were starting to look like straw and my hair in general just looked slightly lifeless. It needed help.
I always ask all my friends who cuts their hair and if there is anyone they swear by. And that is how I discovered Matt. My friend Nicole, who was visiting from Seattle documented the whole thing, and we chatted the night away with our new found friend Matt Fugate, who also happens to be from the Seattle area! Such a small world.
Matt showed me how to blow out my bangs to tame my cowlick/slight widows peak of a hairline and create a straight part down the middle. This was a huge deal to me because my whole life I have always wanted to have a demure middle part but could never quite get it just right. I can’t wait to try it out myself.
The other trick Matt does and is his “thing” is he is a master at razoring. There is no blunt cutting or snipping and he has a a keen knack for creating seamless layers that actually achieve a longer look. It’s amazing. Really.
Here I am learning how to use a round brush. Does anyone else have problems when using this thing? Practice makes perfect I guess.
Okay, I have to just reiterate that I am not exaggerating when I say that I have never, ever had such a clean straight part like this before. It’s one thing if I decide to wear my hair curly, but when I style it straight, I want my part straight and my hairline sleek. I plan on practicing with my big round brush to perfect this look.
Almost done!
Ta-dah!
It’s safe to say I am obsessed with my new hair, and with creating a perfect middle part. Matt is amazing and is growing in popularity by the second, so if you are in need of a stellar new do, my advice is to get over there and fast! Thanks again Matt, you rocked my hair’s world!
