I was a huge fan of Celine Dion in college. During my first year of college, my boyfriend at the time lived about an hour and a half away, so every other weekend, I would get on a bus, put my headphones in and listen to her heartfelt and powerful songs (It’s All Coming Back To Me Now, That’s The Way It Is and Because You Loved Me – um hello, Up Close and Personal) for the hour and a half ride from Bellingham to Seattle. For those of you that are fans of her music, you have to admit her voice and lyrics can be extremely riveting, especially to an 18-year-old girl in love. On top of loving Celine Dion, I also love the brand Céline. So, you can imagine my excitement when I saw this sweatshirt in Urban Outfitters about two weeks back. I almost didn’t get it, but I was shopping with a client and she pretty much made me buy it, so I have her to thank for this awesome new addition to my closet. xo
mud flats

Karen Walker “Super Duper Strength” Sunglasses /F21 Destroyed Denim Vest and Tank / Zara Shorts and Wedges / Givenchy Bag / La Mer Collections Watch (c/o – similar style in black) / Giles & Brother Bracelet (c/o) / In God We Trust “Thanks Collar Necklace”
Yesterday, I spent the afternoon hanging out on the mud flats, and actually wore these wedges. I figured why not photograph the outfit with them on because realistically, these are the shoes I would’ve worn with this look anywhere else. But that said, I did have a pair of flip flops in my bag, however that would have been much too practical, right? My boring little flops would have taken away from the overall ensemble, and plus, the challenge of balancing in my sky high wedges while precariously walking over rocks and wet sand was much more fun. I know my Dad got a kick out of watching me hobble over the stones and shells, but I’m pretty positive, my Grandmother, Rita, would have been extremely proud. All in the name of fashion, right?
P.S. Thank to my amazing Dad for taking these photos. He always manages to remain patient and supportive no matter what the situation. xo
outfit remix: leather shorts, two ways!
One of my favorite things to do with outfits and creating looks, is to remix them. I like to take one item and build around it, coming up with multiple ways to wear it. I used to do this a lot but think I need to make a point of doing more of it on the blog – I just find it so fun! And, I know I find it helpful when I see how to wear something two (or three or four) different ways on other blogs and in magazines, so I hope you guys do too!
Today’s remix is all about my “leather” shorts and how I style them during the summer months…
Personally, I would wear this outfit to a work meeting because my industry is a bit more relaxed when it comes to clothing and style. But I understand that everyone has different work environments and this look may not be appropriate for all professions. I recognize that the shorts may be a bit too short for a typical work day, so for those of you that need a slightly more modest style, opt for this skirt (or this one) or a slightly longer short, such as this cute pair. That said, I still feel this look is very polished and sophisticated and perfectly acceptable for an evening out with the girls!
This outfit feels very casual chic to me, because the actual “bones” of this outfit are fairly relaxed, seeing that the jacket is a lightweight linen and the top is a chambray button down. What dresses it up, are the heels. I would wear this to shop or meet up with a client, or to a low-key lunch with a colleague. But by simply slipping on a cute pair of flats, you can easily transition this outfit to the weekend and still look and feel cute while eating brunch and running errands on a typical Sunday afternoon.
Like I said, I love accessories!
Takeaway tip: These outfits, although very different in style, use many of the same types of pieces, i.e. a blazer, button down and heels. However, the key to switching up a look, such as making it dressed up or down, is all in the material and fabric of the clothing, the colors of the items used and most importantly (in my mind), the accessories. But overall, the most important thing I always say, is to have fun with it! What’s fashion without some fun?! xo

With the weather spiking into the 90s last week, I decided to forgo my beloved lightweight v-neck tees for anything cropped or in tank form. I’m not usually one to show my stomach, but when it gets this hot and humid all I want to do is stay as cool as possible, and a good crop top seems to do the trick.
Luckily, I heard that the weather in New York might be giving us a bit of a break this coming week, so fingers crossed. But regardless, I still plan on trying to sneak in some pool time to escape the city heat! Have a great week everyone! xo
P.S. Nordstrom is having their Anniversary Sale! As a Seattleite, this is something I look forward to all year. You can shop the sale here!

These days, the weather in New York is sweltering. The only way I have found to handle the heat and humidity is to constantly live in shorts and a t-shirt, and to have either a fresh pressed cold juice, or smoothie in my hand. Lately I’ve been frequenting Juice Generation – I love their “Get Your Green On.” Do you guys have a favorite juice place you go to? Any tricks to battling the summer heat?
Hope your Monday is off to a good start and that you are able to dip your feet in a pool or the ocean this weekend. Stay cool! xo
